Sacramento City employees recognized for saving co-worker’s life with CPR
Sacramento, CA (February 7, 2024) - City employees at a water treatment plant were honored this week for saving the life of their co-worker Brett Martin by giving him CPR after he had a heart attack at work back in December. Quintno Sarani, David Jameson, and Antonio Jimenez, immediately called 911 and performed CPR until paramedics arrived.
Sacramento Fire employees Brandon Gaub, Zeki Iscan, Ian Myers, Julie Vang, Phillip Smith, Nicholas Snyder, and Kyle Raggio continued the life-saving measures until Brett could be transferred to the emergency room.
After spending a few days in the hospital, Brett was released completely neurologically intact with a Cerebral Performance Category of 1 (CPC1 is the highest cerebral performance).
At a Feb. 7 ceremony, the dispatcher, city employees, and the Sacramento firefighters who responded to the emergency call were recognized and awarded certificates and challenge coins to commend their extraordinary dedication and life-saving actions. Their actions illustrate the importance of CPR training and the critical role that first responders play in saving lives.
“It is so wonderful to be able to celebrate the best of our community, our city employees and those who work in public service,” Mayor Darrell Steinberg said.
“Today is an important reminder that you don't need to have a fancy title or particular position in life to help make someone's life better,” Mayor Steinberg added. “You just have to be willing to do the right thing, at the right time, and have the right kind of training. With that you can make an enormous difference in the world”
