Sacramento, CA (February 6 , 2024) – The Mayor’s Gallery is featuring, “Wetlands Guardian” by Helen Plenert for the month of February.

Wetlands Guardian is 48x48” acrylic painting on canvas, inspired by the Vic Fazio Wetlands Preserve.

Born and raised in Sacramento, Plenert attended American River College and Sacramento State University, where she studied under various notable instructors that had a great influence on her artistic style.

During the 1980’s, Plenert moved to San Francisco and worked in various professional roles including set design, producer, and technical director. Plenert’s stage design work granted her the opportunity to tour the Singapore and Hong Kong Theater Festivals before returning to Sacramento in 2000.

Back in Sacramento Plenert began teaching elementary and junior high school students, and creating murals across the city. In 2006, she became the director of a women's art program, where she was responsible for staffing 14 art classes per week. Plenert has since retired from teaching to solely focus on her artwork.
