Mayor's Gallery - August 2024: Margaret Teichert's “Hope is the Thing With Feathers”
Sacramento (Aug. 7, 2024) - The Mayor’s Gallery features “Hope is the Thing With Feathers” by Margaret Teichert for the month of August.
Teichert is a multimedia artist who frequently works with clay, wood, glass, and various reclaimed materials. Inspired by her experience battling breast cancer, this piece highlights the reclaiming and reassembling of one’s life following diagnosis and treatment. She has been named the honorary survivor for the 2024 American Cancer Society’s “Making Strides Against Breast Cancer” event, which centers around the theme of hope.
“Hope is the Thing With Feathers” is made entirely of reclaimed wood in the shape of a feather, inspired by the Emily Dickinson poem of the same name.
Teichert works in her home studio and at Sac Made, a nonprofit makerspace and coworking hub for creatives and entrepreneurs located in Oak Park. You can follow her various artistic endeavors on Instagram at @MargsMakesThings.
