Sacramento celebrates 41st annual National Night Out

Sacramento (Aug. 7, 2024) Thousands of people gathered at 35 community events around Sacramento Tuesday evening as part of the 41st annual National Night Out.

While every neighborhood hosts various events and activities - the focus is on creating a sense of community and connection between neighbors and law enforcement, as well as building support for Neighborhood Watch programs. Activities ranged from block parties and firetrucks to raffle giveaways.

Since 1984, over 38 million people have participated in National Night Out in all 50 states. National Night Out was started as a way for communities to connect with their local law enforcement and to create a sense of neighborhood camaraderie.

Mayor Darrell Steinberg attended several of the gatherings and said they "exemplify the spirit of our city – one of unity, collaboration, and mutual support.”

“I’m proud of the relationships we're building between our residents and law enforcement, fostering a safer and more connected Sacramento,” said Mayor Steinberg. “A huge thank you to all the neighborhood and community associations for your dedication and hard work."
