Sacramento doubles rebates for residents installing water-saving landscaping and fixtures
In May of 2021, Governor Gavin Newsom declared a drought emergency for most of California, including the City of Sacramento.
In an effort to encourage water conservation in the region, the City of Sacramento’s Department of Utilities is doubling the amount of money people can receive from the River Friendly Landscape Rebate Program. The increased rebates are available through December 31, 2021 and include grass conversions as well as irrigation and indoor fixture upgrades.
“Sacramento residents have time and again shown their commitment to being efficient users of water,” said Roshini Das, Department of Utilities sustainability program manager. “We hope that the increased rebate amounts will help residents make conservation even easier.
“If you’ve been thinking about upgrading your fixtures or landscaping and putting it off, now is the time,” she added.
Doubled rebates Include:
Turf Conversion - grass conversion rebates have doubled from $1.50 to $3 per square foot of grass replaced. Single Family customers can receive up to $6,000 and commercial/multi-family customers can receive up to $100,000.
Irrigation Upgrade - upgrade irrigation system to drip or rotating nozzles and you can receive up to $800.
Toilet Upgrades – receive up to $250 per toilet for pre-1992 and $150 for pre-2014, if replaced with a MaP Premium High Efficiency Toilet.
Other products – smart controllers, shower heads and faucet aerators will be free for City residents while supplies last if you purchase from the Sacramento Municipal Utilitiy District’s Energy Store.
