Sacramento Ballet Announces New Artistic Director, 2018 Season Performances

Sacramento, CA - On Wednesday, May 23, the new leaders poised to take over the Sacramento Ballet announced the schedule for the 2018/19 season at a City Hall press conference. Starting July 1, 2018, Amy Seiwert will be the new artistic director, following in the 64-year tradition of Ron Cunningham and Carinne Binda-Cunningham (30 years) and company founder Barbara Crockett. Amy Seiwert has performed with the Smuin, LA Chamber and Sacramento Ballets as well served as Choreographer in Residence for the Smuin Ballet and worked with the New York Choreography Institute.

Mayor Darrell Steinberg introduced Seiwert and gave her center stage to elaborate on what will be her first season as artistic director. The new season, "Roots and Wings,"  will include fan favorites Beer & Ballet and The Nutcracker. The Nutcracker will feature a classical interpretation and continue to cast children from around the Sacramento region.  The Sacramento Ballet will perform at the Sofia Tsakopoulos Center for the Arts, the Sacramento Community Center Theater and the Binda-Cunningham stage at CLARA. The new season will feature works by highly-acclaimed choreographers from around the world and pieces choreographed by Cunningham and Seiwert.
