City awards grants to fund North Sacramento exterior façade improvements
Sacramento (Sep. 24, 2024) - Over $643,000 in grants are being awarded by the City’s District 2 Council Office to fund façade improvements for 34 locations throughout North Sacramento.
The North Sacramento Façade and Property Improvement Grant Program was available to property owners, small businesses, and nonprofits with street frontage on key commercial corridors within District 2. It provides funding for various exterior improvements, including new paint, signs, doors, windows, and awnings.
“I am thrilled to announce these façade grant awards,” said Councilmember Shoun Thao, who represents the area. “A historically disinvested part of the city, North Sacramento is home to many old buildings in need of revitalization. Improving the physical appearance these buildings will have significant economic benefits such as increasing sales, attracting new customers, spurring other improvements and fostering community pride.”

These latest awards build upon two previous rounds of the façade grant program, investing nearly $1 million into beautifying North Sacramento storefronts.
The façade funding is part of a $5 million federal American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) allocation set aside for North Sacramento. Other ARPA investments include over $2.3 million in grants and loans to various District 2 community-based organizations.
In addition to the ARPA allocation, the City is investing another $700,000 into North Sacramento through the Forward Together Pilot Grant Program. The application window for that grant program recently closed and awards will support the implementation of community priorities and actions identified in the Neighborhood Development Action Team’s Forward Together Marysville and Del Paso Boulevard Action Plan.
