Mayor's Gallery - June 2024: Davy Fiveash's “The Nightmare”
Sacramento (June 7, 2024) - The Mayor’s Gallery features “The Nightmare” by Davy Fiveash for the month of June.
Davy Fiveash is an artist who was raised in the deep south of southern Georgia and now calls Sacramento home. His work is an introspective look into the psychology of personal identity and relationships with one’s desired community and how one views one's self.
Fiveash draws from early influences in the in his life as a queer creator growing up in a rural and fundamentalist environment. He utilizes a mix of folk-art media and “traditional” art making methods to investigate the contradictions and complexities of the modern idea of communal belonging.
"The Nightmare" depicts a fawn sleeping and allegorical images of what that fawn could be imagining. The piece is comprised of mixed media featuring colored pencil and chalk on fabric collage on stretched canvas.
He has an MFA from the San Francisco Art Institute and is currently represented by Archival Gallery in Sacramento and Artize Gallery of La Quinta, CA.
