Landscape watering rules change March 1 - Here is what you need to know

As warmer temperatures approach, City Utilities staff are reminding people that residents and businesses can water their landscapes up to two days per week starting in March.

The change is part of the City’s year-round watering schedule, which helps people use less water based on the time of year.

“Lawns need more water as they emerge from their dormant winter state and temperatures warm up,” said William Granger, the City’s water conservation coordinator.

From March 1 to Oct. 31, customers with addresses that end in an even number can water on Wednesdays and Sundays, and customers with addresses that end in an odd number can water on Tuesdays and Saturdays.

All watering must be done between 7 p.m. and 10 a.m. and allowing water to run off into sidewalks or gutters is not allowed.

The City also asks residents and businesses to turn off their sprinklers when it rains and for 48 hours after the rain has stopped.

“After it rains, it’s important to wait until your lawn has dried out before you turn on your sprinklers again,” said Granger.

People can find more information about the spring and summer watering schedule on the City’s water conservation website.
