Volunteers needed for Earth Day clean ups throughout city
Sacramento, CA (Apr. 13, 2023) - The City of Sacramento is inviting people to celebrate Earth Day by cleaning litter from public spaces and waterways as part of the Great Sacramento Clean Up.
The event will take place from 9 a.m. to noon on April 22 and is open to individuals or groups. In addition to cleanups, volunteers can assist with mulching and landscaping at several sites.
“We encourage folks to come out and join us for Earth Day,” said the City of Sacramento’s Climate Action Lead Jennifer Venema. “These cleanups help us keep debris out of our waterways and reduce the risks of flooding in our neighborhoods and streets.”
The clean up events will be at the below locations:
Del Paso Regional Park (4200 Park Rd.)
San Juan Reservoir Park (3320 West Witter Way)
Miller Park (2701 Marina View Dr.)
Matsui Park (450 Jibboom St.)
Sacramento River Levee at the Promenade (1400 Front St.)
William Chorley Park (7063 20th St.)
Granite Regional Park (8200 Ramona Ave.)
North Laguna Trail at Jacinto Creek Park (8600 W Stockton Blvd.)
The landscaping locations are Robla Community Park (625 Bell Ave.) and William Land Park (3853 18th St.).
“Giving back is in Sacramento’s DNA. Our residents always shows up for each other and for our communities. That is what I love about our city,” said Mayor Darrell Steinberg.
Those interested in volunteering can sign up on the City’s website. After signing up, detailed instructions with exact meeting locations will be provided.
Volunteers should wear sunscreen and appropriate work clothing, as well as bring their own water and snacks. Tools for removing litter will be provided. Individuals are welcome to bring their own trash grabbers if they have them.
The City also is commemorating Earth Day with cleanups, tree plantings, and maintenance activities at parks across the city led by the Landscape and Learning (L&L) program, a paid youth workforce experience program of the Youth, Parks, and Community Enrichment Department.
Sacramento Regional Transit will be offering free systemwide rides on the day of the event.
The City is also a sponsor of an Earth Day event organized by the Environmental Council of Sacramento on April 23 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
