Reserve your household junk pick up now! Here's how:

Sacramento, CA (Feb. 7, 2023) - Want to get a head start on that spring cleaning? City of Sacramento Solid Waste and Recycling residential customers now can make an appointment for household junk pickup to dispose of items too large to fit in the curbside container.

To make an appointment, residents can call City Customer Service at 311 (or 916-264-5011 outside City limits), use the free Sac311 app, or make an online request at Sac311.org. Appointments are available February through October.

Extra yard waste that can’t fit in to the curbside container can be part of a household junk appointment, but it must be kept separate from the other items, and any branches must be cut to three feet in length and no more than four inches in diameter, said Jesa David, spokesperson for Recycling and Solid Waste.

“We know our customers love the Claw and wish leaf season could continue,” said Jesa David, spokesperson for the Recycling and Solid Waste Division. “But we still collect organic waste weekly in the container, and by switching to junk pickups with the Claw, customers have another option for the excess yard waste and other items they can’t recycle or fit in a curbside container.”

There are a few guidelines to follow to prepare your pile for pickup:

Materials should not be placed in the street more than 24 hours prior to the scheduled pickup.

Piles must be within four feet by four feet by nine feet (4’ x 4’ x 9’) and should be placed six feet from vehicles.

Place any tree and yard waste (branches, stumps, leaves, etc.) in a separate pile away from junk.

Please keep piles away from storm drains and bike lanes.

More information on junk pickup guidelines and what can be included in the pile can be found here.

In addition to bulky household waste, customers can request two appointments to pick up appliances, electronic waste, and motor oil. Appliances, e-waste, and household hazardous waste should not be included in the junk pickup. Guidelines for setting up these appointments can be found here.

Not sure where items for refuse should go? Residents can use the SacRecycle Waste Wizard online sorting app for local recycling, reuse, and donation options.
