Sacramento interfaith community to host benefit concert for earthquake victims in Turkey, Syria
Sacramento, CA (Feb. 18, 2023) - Leaders from Sacramento's interfaith community have come together to host a special benefit concert at Sacramento Memorial Auditorium for earthquake victims in Turkey and Syria.
The fusion group Al Firdaus Ensemble will be performing for one night only and all proceeds from their show will go to Zakat Foundation of America (Tax ID 36-4476244). Zakat is providing emergency relief through temporary shelter, food, medical supplies, and hygiene kits in areas affected by the earthquake.
"This benefit concert is just the latest in a long history of the Sacramento community, and in particular our faith community, stepping up for those most in need," said Mayor Darrell Steinberg.
The Council on Islamic American Relations (CAIR), Temple B'nai Israel, Mayor Steinberg, the City of Sacramento, and others in the faith community began collaborating immediately following the news of the earthquakes to work on something that could provide assistance to earthquake victims.
Al Firdaus Ensemble will take the stage at 7:30. P.M. on Wednesday night. Tickets are available through Ticketmaster now and through the box office at the auditorium starting at 5:30 P.M. the night of the concert. All tickets are $28.00.
The Al Firdaus Ensemble hails from Andalusia (southern Spain) and combines musical traditions from Western classical, Turkish, Arabic, Celtic, Andalusi, Flamenco and Celtic. The group is currently touring in the United States with stops in Houston, Los Angeles, Chicago and Atlanta.
