More clean and affordable transportation now available in Del Paso Heights

Sacramento, CA (Oct. 11, 2023) - Residents in Del Paso Heights Wednesday celebrated the opening of a new ‘mobility hub’ that connects the neighborhood to a suite of clean and green transportation options.
The new hub sits on May Street close to Grant High School and major thoroughfares. It includes:
Electric Car charging and an electric car share program
A stop for an electric shuttle for students
Zero emission cars operated by non-profits that offer pre-scheduled free rides to residents. This service has been especially helpful for students going to school.
Open green space in the heart of the neighborhood and free public WiFi
One of the shared EV’s that will be available at the hub.
Mayor Steinberg said the hub is an example of integrating the fight against climate change with increased economic opportunities for neighborhoods that have historically been most harmed by pollution.
“Environmental justice has changed and is essential for the future of this planet, for the future of all of our communities, especially communities that have been far too long left behind,” said Mayor Darrell Steinberg.
“It's about inclusive economic development. It's about career pathways for young people. It's about ensuring that every neighborhood in our city and in our state has access to clean energy and easy green electric mobility.”
The City of Sacramento donated land for the mobility hub, and the $1.6-million first phase of the project was completed with funding from the Sacramento Air Quality Management District, First Foundation Bank, and Beneficial State Bank.

GreenTech, a community-based organization focused on workforce development for under-resourced youth, will also use the hub as an educational opportunity for students hoping to pursue careers in green energy and mobility.
“Resources like this mobility hub show how a city can address multiple policy goals at the same time,” said Nicole Cuellar-Nelson, Mayor Steinberg’s Senior Policy Advisor on Climate. “The Mobility Hub will increase access to transportation in a neighborhood that deeply needs it, improve air quality through the use of cleaner vehicles, and provide educational opportunities to students.”
A second phase will include more charging, including fast chargers for EVs, access to shared rideables like e-bikes and e-scooters, and a solar canopy.
