You may not be receiving important emergency alerts. Here's how to sign up in Sacramento.
Sacramento, CA (Jan. 03, 2023) - With another storm set to arrive within hours, public officials in the Sacramento region are urging everyone to sign up for emergency alerts that provide critical information.
Sacramento County Office of Emergency Services (OES), in partnership with Yolo and Placer Counties manages ‘Sacramento Alert.’ This system provides updates on unexpected road closures, missing persons, evacuations, and severe weather.
“Due to the incoming storms and potential for localized flooding, we are urging the public to sign up for emergency alerts now at sacramento-alert.org,” said MaryJo Flynn, Director of Sacramento County OES. “Residents will receive direct alerts to their phone or email. These alerts will only be sent out for critical emergency information like flooding or potential evacuation orders. We are also urging the public to have an emergency plan and go kit ready. Details can be found at sacramentoready.org.”
To sign up for emergency alerts, go directly to Sacramento-Alert.org or download the Smart911 app from the Apple or Google Play store. The signup process is quick and easy and only requires a name and a phone number. When signing up you’ll be asked to create a username and password that will be used to access your confidential profile and update your contact preferences. You can also add the Sacramento Alert system to your contacts using this .vcf card.
Residents who have previously signed up for emergency alerts are encouraged to log in and confirm that their contact information and preferences are up to date.
Sacramento County officials provided this easy-to-follow step-by-step instruction sheet to ensure that alerts are set up properly and emergency contact information is accurate. SacramentoReady.org also offers important information on disaster preparedness, power outages, and other emergency communication.
“These can be life and death situations. Please sign up for emergency alerts. If you have already signed up, check with your family and friends and make sure they are signed up too,” said Mayor Darrell Steinberg.
The Sacramento County Office of Emergency Services is responsible both for sharing important information for agencies and coordinating responses to large-scale incidents like natural disasters.
