Join Racial Equity Council to make your voice heard on how the City can make more equitable decisions

Sacramento (May 5, 2022) The City of Sacramento and the national non profit organization Race Forward have been working with the community to develop a multi-year SCORE initiative (Sacramento Centered On Racial Equity) that aims to reset civic engagement in the development of a shared definition and lens for evaluating racial equity within city decisions, investments and processes.

Community member DeAngelo Mack speaks at an April meeting of the Racial Equity Committee

As a part of the SCORE initiative, community members have been self-organizing to create two new community-based groups called the Racial Equity Network (broad membership network) and the Racial Equity Council (leadership body for the network). These groups will represent the community in working with the City's Racial Equity Committee in the development of a racial equity definition and lens, along with the allocation of resources to build the capacity for city staff to utilize the new lens.

Since the Racial Equity Network and Council are community-based and centered processes, it is important to note that neither the Mayor nor any City Official or City staff are part of the development, membership, or governance of the groups.
