City offers match funding for creative projects in Sacramento. Here's how to apply
Sacramento (April 25, 2022) The City of Sacramento’s Office of Arts and Culture, in partnership with community crowdfunding nonprofit ioby, is asking City of Sacramento community members to apply for up to $15,000 in matching funds for arts and culture projects.
The $400,000 “Sacramento Arts & Culture Match Program” will run through early 2023. Funds can be used to implement crowd-funded, community-led arts and culture projects such as outdoor dance performances, art fairs, afterschool art classes, community gardening, murals and more.
"Sacramento is brimming with creative people," said Mayor Darrell Steinberg. "Innovative projects like ioby can really uplift communities and neighborhoods by creating new opportunities to build arts and culture."
"Nationwide, we've seen that community members have great ideas to make their neighborhoods stronger, more vibrant, and more just," said Erin Barnes, ioby's CEO, "That's why we're thrilled to be partnering with the City of Sacramento Office of Arts & Culture to bring much-needed funding, training and resources to Sacramento neighbors who are using the arts to make positive change in their own back yards."
Those interested in applying must be a resident, informal group, school, place of worship, or nonprofit organization within the City of Sacramento. Organizations with an annual budget larger than $250,000 are not eligible for this match program.
“Traditional grant application processes pose barriers for grassroots level projects,” said Creative Economy Manager Megan Van Voorhis. “This program will help eliminate these barriers with targeted outreach, workshops and one-on-one coaching throughout the process.”
The Sacramento Arts & Culture Match Program is funded by Measure U dollars and stems from the City’s “Creative Edge” plan to expand neighborhood-based programming and placemaking through community and artist-initiated projects
