Sacramento artists create magic at building slated for demolition

The Sacramento art scene has once again raised the bar with Coordinates ICE PAC. Artists have transformed the interior of the former PAC SAT satellite news broadcast building into a series of artistic installations using former offices, studio spaces and control rooms. The exhibition features 35 artists and took more than 5,000 hours to create is open to the public from March 4 through March 26. At the end of the show, the PAC SAT building will be demolished for market-rate apartments and retail, adding to the already vibrant and busy R Street corridor. Here is a sneak peek of what you can expect at Coordinates from Mayor Steinberg’s tour with the curators.

CURATOR'S STATEMENT

COORDINATES are site-specific transitory exhibitions that bring attendees outside of the art world’s traditional white cube institutions by using vacant and underutilized spaces for creative inquiry.

During an era of urban development in Sacramento, this project aims to reclaim the use of land and space for artistic activation. Over THIRTY artists are selected and given one month to transform the .73 acre lot and push the boundaries of material and concept. Coordinates: Ice Pac will be further evidence that Sacramento’s creative community is worthy of investment.
