Sacramento announces new sister city relationship after unanimous council vote
Sacramento, CA (June 29, 2023) - The Sacramento City Council Tuesday voted unanimously to make Sumy, Ukraine a “sister city” to Sacramento.
Mayor Darrell Steinberg and Councilmember Caity Maple spearheaded Tuesday’s effort from Sacramento. On Thursday, they were joined by the Consul General of Ukraine Dmytro Kushneruk and Vlad Skots, the Chairman of Ukrainian American House, a local non-profit focused on Ukrainian-American relations, to celebrate Tuesday’s decision.
“After speaking with Mayor Lysenko, it was obvious that a sister city relationship could help bring humanitarian aid and continue to shine a light on the daily challenges faced by a city in the middle of a war zone,” said Mayor Darrell Steinberg
