COVID Recovery grant applications are open for Sacramento arts organizations

Sacramento, CA (Dec. 08, 2022) - The City of Sacramento’s Office of Arts and Culture, in partnership with Sacramento County, are offering grants to nonprofit organizations located in Sacramento County that are focused on the arts, collections and exhibits.

“Sacramento has been a national leader and put more dollars of federal resources towards supporting the creative economy through the pandemic than any where else. Between CARES and ARP, we set aside $30 million and this grant is an important piece of that investment,” said Mayor Darrell Steinberg.

The “Arts and Cultural Nonprofit Recovery Program” aims to support arts and cultural nonprofits in the region.

“These recovery funds have provided an opportunity for us to broaden our reach and offer much needed support to our county’s valuable historical sites, history and science museums, and local cultural assets,” said the City’s Arts Grants Manager Melissa Cirone. “This vital funding will help these organizations retain and expand employment opportunities and ensure ongoing access to arts and cultural programing for Sacramentans.”

The $4 million grant program is funded through City and County federal American Rescue Plan dollars.

Eligible organizations include nonprofit theaters, performing arts groups, community arts organizations, historical sites, zoos and botanical gardens, visual art galleries, and film or cultural festivals. Organizations must be 501(c)3 and be in operation prior to March 1, 2022.

Applicants must produce, promote or engage in live performances, events, or exhibits intended for public viewing and those that preserve and exhibit objects of historical, cultural, or educational interest.

“Sacramento County’s arts and nonprofit cultural organizations are a critical part of this community,” said the County’s Director of Community Development, Troy Givans. “We invite you to submit applications to access grant funding to support in the recovery of your valued organization’s operations.”

Grants can be used for operating expenses such as salaries and benefits for employees, fees for artists and contractors, mortgage/rent, utilities, insurance, and marketing.

Award amounts will be based on the total size of the grant pool and the organization’s submitted annual operating revenue for fiscal year 2020-21 or calendar year 2021. The total grant amount will be awarded over two years.

Grant applications must be submitted by Jan. 30 at 11:59 p.m. Find more information and eligibility criteria on the City’s website.

The Office of Arts and Culture will be holding a virtual orientation Dec. 14 at 4 p.m. Those interested in attending can register here.
