Shop 916 program returns, offering gift cards with big savings on holiday purchases
Sacramento (Nov. 15, 2022) - With holiday shopping right around the corner, the City of Sacramento has relaunched its Shop 916 gift card program with a special promotion of buy a gift card, get a bonus gift card.
The electronic gift card, launched by the City in December 2021, is a program that supports local storefront retailers negatively impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
“I’m excited that we’re able to bring Shop 916 back this holiday season,” said Mayor Darrell Steinberg. “We get to help our local businesses and make your dollars stretch a little further.”
The program is funded from the City Council approved American Rescue Plan (ARP) funding for business recovery efforts.
“The Shop 916 gift card is a great way to support Sacramento businesses while getting some extra spending money for the holiday season,” said Valerie Mamone-Werder, the City’s project development manager responsible for the program. “This is a great way to give gifts and impact the local economy. And there is still time for businesses to sign up for this free program.”
The promotional offer features:
Buy a $25 gift card and get a $10 bonus gift card for free
Buy a $50 gift card and get a $25 bonus gift card for free
Buy a $100 gift card and get a $50 bonus gift card for free
This promotional offer is available until Feb. 15 and the bonus gift cards must be used by Feb. 28.
Bonus cards are limited to five per purchaser. Regular consumer-purchased gift cards do not expire. Gift cards are purchased through the City’s website at shop916local.com
A total of $229,000 of Shop 916 gift and bonus cards to date have been spent in the city of Sacramento. Nearly 100 Sacramento small businesses have signed up to participate in the Shop 916 local gift card program.
Shop 916 also offers a volume discount program for one time or ongoing purchases of $1,000 or more. The bulk purchases can be used for employee rewards, customer appreciation, holiday gifts, welcome gifts, incentives, etc.
All local storefront retailers located in the city can participate. The program is open to all businesses within the city of Sacramento that have 500 or fewer full-time equivalent employees, with the exception of home-based businesses, franchises, liquor-only stores and cannabis businesses.
