Started on May 14, Great Plates has delivered 500,000 free restaurant -cooked meals to seniors and $11.7 million in economic benefit by paying Sacramento restaurants; local farms; delivery drivers and operations staff at Paratransit and United Cerebral Palsy; and WCP Solutions, a box manufacturer in Sacramento’s River District that supplies the meal kit containers.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency and the State of California are providing 94 percent of the money to run the program. The City’s CARES Act funding provides the matching 6 percent. For a detailed breakdown of the program check the City’s dashboard.

FEMA extended the program this week and is expected to do so again before the February end date.

The program is run out of Mayor Darrell Steinberg’s office with help from staff at the Sacramento Public Library. New participants will be added from the current waiting list. If you have questions, call the Great Plates phone line at 916-808-8848.
