City accepting bids for Great Plates Delivered program

Bids are due Friday, Sept. 4 for those looking to provide meals or services through the City’s Great Plates Delivered emergency feeding program for seniors.

Great Plates Delivered was launched by Governor Gavin Newsom on April 24 in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Office of Mayor Darrell Steinberg crafted a plan for Sacramento that started delivering meals from restaurants to seniors on May 14. The program is funded by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (75%) , the State of California (18.75%) and the City of Sacramento (6.25%).

The City is now seeking participants through the City’s formal procurement process to ensure compliance with FEMA reimbursement requirements in the event the program is extended beyond the current Sept. 9 expiration date. Providers currently participating in Great Plates Delivered are eligible to respond to the RFP.  

The City is seeking services in five categories:

  • Meal Kit Provider

  • Delivery Service and Logistics

  • Meal Kit Provider Conducting Delivery to Participants

  • Volunteer Management

  • Advisor Chef

The bid requirements are posted at this link on the City’s Planetbid web portal.  Proposals are due Friday, Sept. 4. Successful service providers will be notified the week of September 8th and contracts will go to the City Council on September 22, 2020. A Notice to Proceed for meal delivery will be issued shortly thereafter.

As of Aug. 26, the City of Sacramento is one of 36 local agencies participating in Great Plates Delivered across the State of California. The City program has served 244,700 meals with an economic impact to the local economy of over $5.5 million. Currently, 40 restaurants employing 254 staff members receive steady income as do the delivery drivers at Paratransit, United Cerebral Palsy, and Lyft.
