At this time we are trying to expand service to more seniors on our wait list and more restaurants but we cannot do it without you! We need volunteers to help us deliver meals, please sign up here if you are able to donate your time to help us expand the program.
Summary
The City of Sacramento is partnering with many local restaurants to provide three meals a day to seniors and high-risk individuals during the COVID-19 stay-at-home order. These meals will be safely delivered to eligible Sacramento residents and meet specific nutritional standards set by the California state government. To date, the program is delivering food from 30 restaurants to about 750 seniors. Enrollment has been suspended as we recruit more volunteers and restaurants. Check back periodically to see if it has been reopened.
Am I eligible?
To determine your eligibility, you must:
be 65 or older,
or 60-64 and at high-risk as defined by the CDC and COVID-19 positive (as documented by a state/local public health official or medical health professional).
Live alone or with one other program-eligible adult
Not be currently receiving assistance from other state or federal nutrition assistance programs
Earn no more than 600% of the federal poverty limit
This means you must earn less than $74,940 (single) or $101,460 as a household of two.
Affirm an inability to prepare or obtain meals
This is done during the sign-up process and is a self attestation.

How do I sign up?
Check back periodically to see if the link has been reopened. Click on the “sign up” button and it will take you to a form that you can fill out. Once you fill out the form, a staff member will reach out to you to confirm and arrange delivery. If you have questions please call 916 808 8848 and leave a message.
How many meals per day will be available to me?
A maximum of three, per day, per participant.
What safety precautions is this program taking?
Individuals providing delivery of meals must complete a background check to ensure safety of participants.
Restaurants are adapting new preparation procedures that enhance their already certified food safety standards.
Restaurant staff are closely monitoring the symptoms of their staff.
I have special dietary needs, is this program able to meet those needs?
The City is taking into account dietary needs for health, religious, and personal reasons in the selection process for the restaurants participating in the program. On the form to sign up for the program you can indicate if you need any special dietary considerations.
Are the meals nutritious?
The standards set by California state government are:
Breakfast: low in sodium, no sugary drinks (<24 calories /8 oz. and of fruit juice, must be only 100 percent fruit juice allowed);
Lunch and dinner: a piece of fresh fruit or vegetable on each dish, and low in sodium, no sugary drinks (<24 calories /8 oz. and of fruit juice, must be only 100 percent fruit juice allowed).
How long will this be available?
Currently the program will run through June 10, 2020. which is the time frame currently approved by FEMA. The state intends to request that the program be extended.
Will this cost me any money?
No, this program is available at no cost to eligible participants.
I don’t live in Sacramento, what do I do?
The California Office of Emergency Services has asked that each local jurisdiction set up their own plan. Reach out to your local elected representative to find out what is available for your area.
