Here's what the county's new 'stay home' directive means for you

On Tuesday, March 17, Sacramento County issued a directive that residents should stay home unless they are engaged in essential activity such as grocery shopping, banking or attending medical appointments. The directive also allows people to leave their homes for essential jobs and to go outdoors for a walk or a run, as long as they maintain a safe distance from others.

Essential services do no include gyms, restaurants or bars, which were directed to close and move to pickup and delivery service only.

Mayor Darrell Steinberg said the directive is functionally similar to the order issued by six Bay Area counties on Monday.

“A directive is an order by another name, and it’s crucial that we follow it,” Mayor Steinberg said. “Staying home is what we need to do to flatten the curve of coronavirus infections and prevent our health care system from being overwhelmed. It will still allow people to engage in the essential functions of life..”
