Sacramento, CA (November 6 , 2023) – The Mayor’s Gallery is featuring, “Finding Daisy from the Deep South” by Kathy “Kanika” Lynne Marshall for the month of November.

Marshall is an exhibiting artist and award winning author. As an exhibiting artist, She uses the name “Kanika” and has been creating works in ceramic, clay, metal and cloth for thirty years.

This month’s exhibit is also the cover art for Marshall’s book, Finding Daisy: From the Deep South to the Promised Land, a biographical collection of interviews, newspaper clippings and other documents detailing the life of her grandmother, Daisy Dooley Marshall.

As an author and researcher, Marshall has published eight books documenting her own family’s heritage. She also leads workshops to guide others in writing the untold stories of historically excluded individuals.

Her art has been shown and sold at the Crocker Art Museum, the California State Capitol, the California State Fair Fine Arts Show, and in the Maya Angelou Annual Fiber Arts Exhibit in North Charleston, South Carolina. In addition, She has won multiple Book Awards from the Afro-American Historical and Genealogical Society, Sons and Daughters of the US Middle Passage, and Northern California Publishers and Authors.
