Mayor's Gallery - July 2023: Tavarus Blackmon's "Dad Life"
Sacramento, CA (July 24, 2023) – For the month of July, the Mayor’s Gallery is featuring “Dad Life” by Tavarus Blackmon.
Blackmon uses drawing and painting to enhance the intensity of color in their work, but also utilizes electronic tools to create their pieces.
According to Blackmon, the concepts of domesticity and family life are focal points in their pieces. He also finds inspiration in his students artistic interpretations of the world around them.
Tavarus Blackmon is a devoted father and partner with three children. He earned his MFA as Provost Fellow at the University of California Davis and his MA in Studio Art at CSU, Sacramento. In addition, he was the recipient of the 2020-2021 Kala Art Institute Fellowship and the Pilot Curatorial Fellowship at Root Division.
Blackmon works as an educator in the CSU system, instructing in Painting and Drawing and Digital Art and has been a Panelist for the California Arts Council and a Community Advisor to the Sacramento Office of Arts and Culture.
Blackmon serves on the Board of Directors as Chair of the Diversity Equity and Inclusion Committee at Root Division, and is a co-owner of several creative businesses with their partner.
