Mayor's Gallery - June 2023: Laurelin Gilmore’s “Dreaming”

Sacramento, CA (June 14, 2023) – For the month of June, the Mayor’s Gallery is featuring “Dreaming,” by Laurelin Gilmore.

Gilmore is an award-winning painter and mixed-media artist, best known for her fantastical oil paintings that blend animal or insect attributes with the human form. More recently, her work blends the person and the environment itself.

Though mostly self-taught, Gilmore earned an Associate of Fine Arts degree from Sacramento City College where she studied painting, portraiture and figure study. Her work has won awards from the Sacramento Fine Art Center, the California State Fair and University Art. She has been featured in many publications including the Sacramento News & Review, Inside Sacramento, Submerge, Dream Broad and Comstock’s magazines. Recently her work was featured on Showtime's 'The L Word: Generation Q', at the Crocker Museum for the 2022 Black Artists on Art exhibit, and on the cover of the Sacramento Open Studios guide.

Laurelin is also co-owner of Sacramento's only art book bookstore, Amatoria Fine Art Books and she keeps a working studio at Sacramento’s Verge Center for the Arts
