Black women leaders in Sacramento speak out in support of Meadowview women's shelter

A group of women who are leaders in Sacramento’s black community Wednesday issued a formal statement supporting Mayor Darrell Steinberg’s plan, approved last week by City Council, to build a homeless shelter for women and children in Meadowview.

In their release, the group noted that homelessness disproportionately afflicts members of the black population, who endure some of the worst conditions living outdoors.
