Crews have begun paving the land under the W/X Freeway where the City plans to build a new Rehousing Shelter with 100 beds. The facility will temporarily house homeless adults now living outdoors in the vicinity and provide them with the services needed to stabilize their lives. Rehousing specialists will help find them permanent housing.

The W/X Rehousing Shelter is expected to open this spring.

City staff is also working now to pick an operator for the planned women and children’s Rehousing Shelter on Meadowview Road near the Pannell Community Center in the Meadowview neighborhood. Construction and design contracts are expected to come back to the City Council for approval in December, and the shelter is expected to be ready to open around February.

These service-rich Rehousing Shelters (known in some jurisdictions as Navigation Centers) will be housed in rigid tent like buildings called Sprung Structures. These sturdy buildings can be erected more quickly and removed more easily than brick and mortar construction.
