Mayor Steinberg had the pleasure of meeting Ivan Crisostomo, a Peruvian immigrant and US Postal Worker who helped rescue a teen from the hands of sex traffickers.

While delivering mail on his daily route Crisostomo encountered Crystal Allen who, three months prior, was kidnapped and had regularly been drugged, beaten and sexually assaulted. Allen was inside her captors’ car in Sacramento’s Oak Park neighborhood when she saw an opportunity to escape. She jumped out of the car and ran for safety, that is when Ivan Crisostomo found her while on his mail route and called the police, taking all precautionary measures to ensure she was safe.

Crisostomo migrated to the United States from Peru 30 years ago and has been with the US Postal Service for over 20 years. At a very early age, Crisostomo’s father instilled in him the importance of expressing compassion and helping others. Where others might have turned a blind eye, Crisostomo remembered his father’s lessons and saw an opportunity to help someone in need.

He helped save a life and Crystal Allen was reunited with her family and today is doing very well with a bright future ahead of her. People need hope, and Crisostomo helped restore that in a young girl who had originally lost it.
