Mayor Presents Vision to use Measure U for Inclusive Economic Growth

(Versión en Español aqui)

June 7, 2018--Today I laid out my economic vision to achieve inclusive economic growth in Sacramento. In the coming weeks, my City Council colleagues and I will be working on a plan to put a measure on the November ballot that would make the half-cent Measure U sales tax permanent and raise it to a full cent. We would continue to use the first half cent to pay for essential public services such as police and fire. But with the second half cent, we could dream.

We could use the money to help create an economy rich with good jobs and train young people from ALL our neighborhoods to fill them. I want a third grader in South Sacramento to have the same chance for success in life as a third grader from East Sacramento.

I shared my ideas with an audience of community, city and business leaders at Sacramento City College, the people's college, where the student body proudly reflects the diversity of our beloved city. The City Council discussion will begin on June 12. #ALLINSAC. The full video is below.
