Joining the Community For Healing and A Call to Action

Joining the Community For Healing and A Call to Action

Mayor Darrell Steinberg and the Office of Civic Engagement joined more than 50 community leaders and healers at Luther Burbank High School to take the first steps toward mobilizing hundreds of mental health professionals to help address generations of accumulated trauma among members of Sacramento’s black community.

What I have been seeing and experiencing at our City Council meetings and out in the community is raw pain and trauma, but what’s important to recognize is that while the Stephon Clark shooting has been a catalyst for elevating this conversation, it’s not a new issue.
— Mayor Darrell Steinberg

We need your help. We are calling on licensed mental health professionals, healers and navigators to volunteer time and expertise over the coming months as we create a collaborative resource network to address our community’s dire need for culturally competent trauma-informed education and counseling resources.

In the months to come, we will help coordinate an array of community health resources such as healing circles, meditation practices, or one-on-one counseling for people in need of support or who want to learn more. We are gathering information from interested residents and neighbors with this short survey.
